SEPTEMBER 10, 2009 -- Alcatel-Lucent and EnergiMidt A/S, a Danish power and broadband utility company, today announced the migration of 20,000 existing gigabit passive optical network (GPON) customers that will be finalized by the end of March 2010. EnergiMidt will also roll out Alcatel-Lucent’s GPON technology to an additional 180,000 households in the Jutland district of Denmark.
“Our former PON supplier announced the end-of-life of its solution, so we opted for Alcatel-Lucent because of its proven capability to re-use our already deployed customer premises equipment,” said Henrik Leu Christiansen, CTO at EnergiMidt. “This will allow us to flexibly migrate without having to disturb our customers -- all while leveraging our past investment in optical network terminals.”
Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 7342 Intelligent Services Access Manager Fiber-to-the-User (ISAM FTTU) platform, the company’s flagship GPON system, for the delivery of ultra-high-speed services to residential and business users. The GPON platform will be complemented by the Alcatel-Lucent 5520 Access Management System (AMS).
