FEBRUARY 25, 2009 -- Alloptic (search for Alloptic) has chosen Xelerated's (search for Xelerated) X11 network processor unit (NPU) for deployment in its Edge10 EPON system.

Based on Xelerated's wirespeed dataflow architecture, the X11 is a high-function, low-cost processor that enables Alloptic to extend its access network portfolio into the next generation of GEPON and 10GEPON systems for network operators and enterprises, say the companies.

According to Xelerated, its X11 NPU combines the low cost and power efficiency of an ASIC with the advantages of an NPU, reducing cost and time-to-market. Using the X11, Alloptic can now achieve maximum network flexibility while extending the lifetime of its products. Furthermore, Xelerated's wirespeed and deterministic network processor allows for in-service upgrades, lowering upgrade time and costs, claims the company. The X11 packet processing architecture guarantees the performance of Alloptic's high-speed data, voice, and IP video applications.

"Selecting the Xelerated X11 NPU was a key architectural choice for us," contends Shane Eleniak, vice president of marketing and business development at Alloptic. "In creating the next generation of PON systems, we were looking for field-proven processing power with the flexibility to adapt to the dynamic service demands of today's evolving networks."

"We are excited to be serving one of the global leaders in EPON as they produce the next generation needs of their customers," adds Anders Ericsson, vice president of sales for Xelerated. "Alloptic's focus on extending Ethernet-based access and aggregation nicely matches Xelerated's focus on an all Ethernet-based solution for carriers and enterprises."
