San Jose, California, March 2, 2006 JDSU today announced the 8126OFI (OFI module), a multi-function loss test module for its T-BERD and MTS-8000 family of handheld testers. The new module, with a user-friendly design, speeds the testing of FTTx networks while reducing the risk of error. The product will be on display at CeBIT 2006 in Hannover, Germany, March 9-16 (booth B20, Hall 13) and OFC/NFOEC 2006 in Anaheim, California, March 5-10 (booth 2323).
Competitive pressures in today's carrier market require test solutions that are cost effective, increase productivity, and reduce the number and complexity of testers carried in the field. Developed in response to these requirements, JDSU's OFI module is a highly versatile test solution that offers intuitive test functions, including a simple pass/fail display, that enhance productivity and reduce the burden on training. With a scaleable, multi-test platform design, field technicians quickly and easily plug in the appropriate test module to perform precise measurement from outside plant to central office.
"Properly characterizing fiber in an FTTx network and increasing its performance without delaying service is vital to our customers," said Enzo di Luigi, general manager of JDSU's fiber optics Test and Measurement group. "The OFI module has demonstrated a 50 percent reduction in verification test time compared to traditional stand-alone instrument measurement techniques."
The OFI module is designed to meet rigorous technical test requirements, including an automated bi-directional loss test set for continuity check, fiber loss, return loss and length; testing at telecom wavelengths of 1310, 1550, and 1625nm; Testing at FTTx/PON wavelengths of 1310, 1490, and 1550nm (in compliance with ITU-T G.983.3); and accurate and reliable ORL measurement even at very short network lengths, such as those found in FTTx networks. The module is also fully compatible with JDSU's line of OFI-2000 family of testers.
