Openreach to deploy CommScope NOVUX hard terminals in Wales as part of Full Fibre broadband network roll-out
CommScope says that it will supply elements of its newly unveiled NOVUX platform line to Openreach, the access network subsidiary of BT. Openreach will deploy NOVUX hardened terminals as part of its Full Fibre roll-out in Wales, where the terminals also will be manufactured.
CommScope says it “configured the NOVUX platform specifically for Openreach’s build program.” The line includes the hardened terminals that are the subject of the announcement as well as compact closures, SRC closures, and SEC closures. The modular line is designed to provide flexible, streamlined broadband infrastructure deployment.
The terminals that Openreach will use will be manufactured in Rhyl, Wales, resulting in the employment of 30-50 people, CommScope estimates. “We place huge importance in our partner network and seek long-term and strategic collaborations,” commented Kevin Murphy, managing director for Fibre and Network Delivery at Openreach. “CommScope is a great example of this and this sustained partnership means we can be benefit from its teams’ skills and innovation to help us build Full Fibre even further. We’re also delighted that CommScope share our belief in investing locally and the NOVUX technology manufactured in Wales will empower our engineers to overcome complex engineering challenges across the UK.”
“This initiative is an important part of the UK’s future, and we’re proud to be leading the charge with Openreach on their mission to maximize billions in investment in connecting specific local areas with dedicated Full Fibre networks,” added Morgan Kurk, executive vice president, CTO, and segment leader for Broadband Networks at CommScope. “Our combined team of engineers, field technicians, and staff are motivated by their role in making a difference to a flourishing startup business or by ensuring families can stream high band-width content in their homes.”
