Draka Comteq debuts riser-rated, LSZH indoor/outdoor cable
January 6, 2004 Franklin, MA -- Draka Comteq USA, manufacturer of copper and fiber cable products, recently expanded its product offering of indoor/outdoor cables to include a riser-rated (OFNR) cable type with the improved flammability and safety performance of low-smoke, zero halogen (LSZH).
The OFNR rating, combined with the safety of low smoke, zero halogen jacketing properties, is ideal for network applications for such industries as health care, transportation, industrial, military or where there is a high concentration of people and equipment.
"Because this cable meets OFNR standards, transition from the outside backbone into the building's riser is simplified since the cable does not have to be terminated within 50 feet of the demarcation like other outdoor to indoor cables," explains Rob Gilberti, RCDD, director of marketing for Draka Comteq. "The versatility of this cable, combined with the improved safety performance, makes it the one cable for additional flexibility when extending the network infrastructure between buildings in a campus or transportation environment," he adds.
These cables are loose-tube construction, which is comprised of gel-filled tubes, for up to 72 fibers (singlemode or multimode), making it ideal for outdoor backbones and extreme temperatures. The cable is available with dry-blocked tape for added water penetration barrier. These cables are manufactured with a single jacket, double jacket, or added corrugated steel armoring. They can also be produced with Draka Comteq's laser-optimized 50-micron MaxCap multimode fiber for high-speed 10-Gbit/sec backbone applications.
