December 7, 2005 Placentia, CA -- EtherWAN Systems has introduced several new copper to fiber-optic media converters aimed at FTTX applications.

The company's EL150 Managed Ethernet Media Converter is a 2-port Ethernet switch with one 10/100T/TX port and one 100FX port converting copper to fiber-optic. The EL150 includes management functions that allow users to configure the unit via software and monitor performance. The device is manageable via Web interface, Telnet, or SNMP client. The company says the EL150 is suited for applications, such as FTTH, that require management at the very edge of the network.

Also recently introduced, the company's EL900 Hardened Fast Ethernet media converter is a 2-port Ethernet switch with one 10/100T/TX port and one 100FX port; its EL9000 Hardened Gigabit Ethernet media converter is a 2-port Ethernet switch with one 1000T port and one 1000SX/LX port. Both devices' fiber-optic ports may be configured for multimode or singlemode duplex fiber or singlemode WDM with a single fiber cable. Optimized for harsh environmental conditions, both devices operate in ambient temperatures of -34°C to +74°C and may be mounted on a shelf, wall, or DIN rail.
