Clearfield, Inc. (NASDAQ:CLFD) announced last week during the FTTH Connect conference and exposition in Anaheim that it has begun to ship its FieldSmart Makwa Fiber Distribution Hub. Announced this past March, the Makwa FDH is designed to be installed below ground as well as above ground. It also leverages a new generation of the company's ClearView Cassette technology.

Environmentally rugged and scalable, the FieldSmart Makwa FDH can be used as a 288-port PON or 432 cross-connect FDH in the industry. Its removable topic cover means all of the fibers can be both protected and fully accessible. The small size of the FDH enables it to be housed in a 24x36x24-inch vault or hand-hole. In buried applications, the small size enables the FieldSmart Makwa to be buried in the boulevard or between the curb and sidewalk.

The Makwa takes advantage of a new, smaller generation of Clearfield's cassette technology. Clearview Black offers a footprint half the size of the Clearview Classic and Clearview Blue Cassettes without comprising access, bend-radius protection, physical fiber protection, and route-path diversity, Clearfield asserts.

The cassette supports up to 24 ports as well as standard configurations, plug-and-play MPO/MTP, and optical component integration. It also can be paired with ribbonized fiber-optic cable.
