OFS to unveil in-home fiber networking products for FTTH
OFS will use next week's FTTH Connect conference in Nashville, TN, to debut three new products for in-home networks related to fiber to the home (FTTH) deployments. The InvisiLight Drop Solution, the SlimBox Wall Plate, and an 80 x 80 Module, all parts of the company's InvisiLight Indoor Living Unit (ILU) Solution, target the connection of indoor optical network terminals (ONTs) to enable FTTH services.
While a number of offerings have reached the market to address the connection of individual subscribers within multiple dwelling units (MDUs), a similar in-building requirement has arisen with the trend toward indoor ONTs in single-family units. Both applications require unobtrusive fiber runs that technicians can install quickly with minimal disruption to the customer and without ruining the living unit's décor.
The new OFS offerings, based on its InvisiLight portfolio, aim to achieve these goals. The InvisiLight Drop Solution provides the first step, which is getting the fiber into the house. It offers a quick and what OFS says is a virtually invisible way to extend OFS EZ-Bend drop cable from outside the living unit to inside without the need for a demarcation point. The installer can remove a length of the EZ-Bend drop cable's outer jacket to expose the InvisiLight fiber, then use the standard InvisiLight installation process to reach a wall outlet or wall-mount ONT.
To terminate and connect the fiber to a desktop ONT, the SlimBox Wall Plate serves as an indoor wall-mounted fiber termination point for up to two factory- or field-connectorized drops or spliced pigtails. OFS the SlimBox Wall Plate is compatible with common wall electrical boxes and offers access ports on the top, bottom and through the back of the module.
The 80x80 (mm) Module is a 70% smaller version of the company's previous InvisiLight adapter module. It can hold a spool with up to 40 m of fiber with a variety of spool options. OFS also supports a range of shuttered adapters.
The new products will be on display in Booth 306 at FTTH Connect conference, June 13-15, at Nashville's Gaylord Opryland resort.
