All Systems Broadband, Inc. has announced the general availability of its 4RU high-density shelf for fiber-optic networks. The shelf’s design provides flexibility and high-density in a small amount of rack space. The shelf also facilitates a clear migration path from current to future technology, minimizing wasted investment, the company asserts.

The shelf exploits the compact size of the company’s HiD4 cassette module to provide hundreds of fiber connections in space that is roughly one-third of that which would be required of similar products, All Systems Broadband says.

“While this new shelf takes full advantage of our HiD4 cassette,” said Mike Grice, vice president, product development, All Systems Broadband, “it has been designed to also allow use of currently available fiber modules such as those used in LGX environments. As a result service providers have a graceful migration path, or the ability to use both the older technology and this new solution side-by-side.”

Because the depth of the HiD4 cassette module is less than half that of similar industry products, All Systems Broadband says the engineers were able to build the shelf to accommodate modules on both the front and rear sides. This approach doubled the capacity of the already compact shelf.

The company claims the new shelf will suit a number of applications such as campus and business park environments in addition to the more traditional head-end or central office environments. The product has already gained approval from a major carrier, and the company anticipates additional approvals for the shelf and the associated high-density cassettes.

“We are finding that flexible, scalable solutions allow our customers to provide their customers highly advanced fiber services, while minimizing up-front investment,” said J.D. Smith, vice president of sales.
