AFL ups OSP MicroCore Cable fiber count to 432

AFL says it has expanded its OSP MicroCore air-jetted fiber-optic cable portfolio with a 432 fiber-count version. The Telcordia GR-20 compliant MicroCore cable features a 12.6-mm outer diameter, which AFL asserts makes it one of the world’s smallest high fiber count fiber cables.

AFL says it has expanded its OSP MicroCore air-jetted fiber-optic cable portfolio with a 432 fiber-count version. The Telcordia GR-20 compliant MicroCore cable features a 12.6-mm outer diameter, which AFL asserts makes it one of the world's smallest high fiber count fiber cables.

Its stranded core geometry is designed for easy mid-span access and fiber express through applications typically used in the FTTx market, AFL says.

"AFL's new 432-fiber OSP MicroCore fiber-optic cable offers network designers greater flexibility in deploying multi-microduct optical pathway infrastructures that are easily upgradeable and cost-effective," asserted Stephen Martin, product manager for AFL. "Given our extended product line offering, from 12 to 432 fibers, we are able to provide solutions for a multitude of applications."

The AFL OSP MicroCore cable line combines the latest in cable material and design engineering. The cable is durable and easy to handle, AFL says, adding the OSP MicroCore cable is capable of withstanding more than 300 lbs of tensile load bearing. It is suitable in operating temperature ranges found in most outside plant FTTx environments, AFL adds.

The company sees the OSP MicroCore cable as an ideal option for outside plant installations, campus inter-building backbone distribution, and low-cost fiber upgrade migration scenarios.
