Preformed Line Products(PLP; NASDAQ: PLPC) says it has agreed to buy MICOS TELCOM s.r.o., a company based in the Czech Republic that makes passive components for telecommunications networks. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

MICOS provides fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), optical distribution, and data center products. These include boxes, cabinets, splice trays, optical cables, and ducts and microducts. It also has a line of passives for copper networks. MICOS operates in 50 countries, with strength in the Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) market. PLP sees the product line as complementary to its own FTTH product lines, including its COYOTE fiber-optic closures and accessories. The product line boost will position the company to better serve growing application spaces such as 5G, network densification, and metro fiber rings, PLP believes.

"MICOS TELCOM products and technology provide a complementary fit with our global communications product portfolio and greatly expands the scope of our product offering for global communications networks,” explained PLP’s CEO and President Rob Ruhlman. “As the demand for fiber network infrastructure accelerates to support next-generation services like 5G, the combination of MICOS TELCOM and PLP will provide our global communications customers with an enhanced array of innovative products and technologies. The highly talented people at MICOS TELCOM's operations in Prostějov, Czech Republic provide a great foundation on which to build our global communications business in the EMEA region and throughout all of our global operations."
