OFS says it has expanded the AccuRibbon DC fiber-optic cable family to include fiber counts up to 864. This expanded fiber count is an improvement on the current AccuRibbon DC cables, which are offered in fiber counts up to 432.
OFS will offer two versions of the 100% gel-free ribbon cables, dielectric and metallic/armored. The fiber-optic cables are designed to decrease cable weights and preparation times, which can help reduce deployment and splicing expenses and speed installation/restoration times, according to OFS.
Super-absorbent polymer (SAP) tapes replace gel in AccuRibbon DC cables to prevent water migration in the cable core. The cables and water-blocking tapes have a 15-year, field-proven history in diverse outside plant (OSP) installations and applications, OFS says.
The AccuRibbon DC cables have met Telcordia GR-20 Issue 4 requirements, as well as OFS's coiling simulations where cables are twisted and coiled under real-world installation conditions. The installation simulation testing performed is well above the industry's current minimum testing standards, OFS asserts.
According to OFS, the AccuRibbon DC cables will be commercially available during the 2017 fourth quarter.
