Installation of a fiber-optic telecommunications cable connecting Haikou, capital of Chinas Hainan

Installation of a fiber-optic telecommunications cable connecting Haikou, capital of China`s Hainan Province, and Beihai, a coastal city in south China`s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was recently completed by Alcatel (Paris). According to the Hainan Provincial Posts and Telecommunications Bureau, cost of the installation was 240-million yuan. The Haikou-Beihai submarine fiber cable is 301 km long, of which 170 km stretches under the sea, and joins China`s inland telecommunications transmission network at the city of Beihai. The cable will be operational following a testing and trial process.
