Adamo to extend fiber network in 19 Spanish provinces thanks to PEBA-NGA award

Nov. 30, 2020
Adamo says it will pass 450,000 new homes in two years as a result of the project.

Spanish fiber broadband network operator Adamo says it has received a grant of €72 million from the government’s Programa de Extension de Banda Ancha de Nueva Generacion (New Generation Broadband Extension Program, PEBA-NGA) to extend its fiber network infrastructure across the rural areas of 19 Spanish provinces. Adamo says it will supplement the grant with €165 million of its own money for the fiber deployment project, which could see the network operator extend its footprint further than agreed upon within the program.

PEBA-NGA, administered by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. It seeks to fund extension of high-speed broadband to underserved areas of Spain. The provinces covered in the award to Adamo include Lleida, Girona, Tarragona, Cantabria, Valencia, Zamora, León, Huelva, Badajoz, Asturias, Córdoba, Palencia, Seville, Ávila, Cádiz, Valladolid, Lugo, Ciudad Real, and Toledo.

Adamo says it will pass 450,000 new homes in two years as a result of the project. The company, backed by EQT Partners, already operates in in Catalonia, Madrid, the Valencian Community, Asturias, Cantabria, Navarra, Castilla La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, La Rioja, Galicia, Murcia and Andalusia. The gigabit-capable network will connect 1.5 million homes by the end of the year, says the company. The award will enable it to reach 2 million homes “very soon.”
