CityFibre to expand footprint in Aberdeen

The open fiber network infrastructure provider says its FTTP network in Aberdeen reached 500 km last October as part of an initial £40 million initiative in the city.

UK full fiber altnet CityFibre says it will spend another £19 million to expand its fiber to the premises (FTTP) infrastructure in Aberdeen, Scotland. The open fiber network infrastructure provider says its FTTP network in Aberdeen reached 500 km last October as part of an initial £40 million initiative in the city (see "CityFibre plans gigabit network in Aberdeen").

CityFibre’s FTTP footprint currently reaches homes in Woodside, Garthdee, Ruthrieston, Mannofield, Kincorth, Broomhill, Cove, Kaimhill, Ferryhill, Northfield, Tillydrone, Rosehill, Hazlehead, Airyhall, Mannofield, Hilton, Seaton, and Torry. Service providers such as Vodafone, TalkTalk, Zen, and GraniteGiG by Converged are using the FTTP network to offer broadband services, with more providers expected to join this list.

Later on the FTTP list are Bridge of Don, Bucksburn, Stoneywood, Dyce, Rosemount, Mastrick, Sheddocksley, and some areas of the city center. Cityfibre expects the extended deployments to be largely finished by the end of this year with the help of construction partner GCU.

“We’re making huge strides in delivering full fiber to homes and businesses across Aberdeen, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring our best-in-class network to even more of the city,” commented Allan McEwan, CityFibre’s city manager for Aberdeen. “At CityFibre, we pride ourselves on being agile and flexible. There is clear demand right across Aberdeen for full fiber services and we continue to build at pace to ensure as many people benefit from our network as soon as possible.”
