TDS Telecommunications LLC says it will expand its fiber to the premises (FTTP) deployments in Wisconsin to include Chippewa Falls and Altoona. The roll out extension holds the potential to connect more than 10,000 addresses to FTTP.
The service provider, which is based in the state, expects to begin construction of the new infrastructure this spring. TDS says it will deploy services in the two communities in phases as the deployments progress. Those services will include internet connectivity up to a symmetrical 2 Gbps for residential customers and up to 10 Gbps for businesses. TDS also will offer voice and video services. The two markets will be new to TDS.
“The pandemic has highlighted the need for high-quality internet and communication services,” commented Andrew Petersen, senior vice president of corporate affairs at TDS. “Fiber optics deliver reliable, fast speeds consumers are looking for to attend school, work remotely, and enjoy gaming and entertainment.”
The FTTP announcements for Chippewa Falls and Altoona follow a recent agreement between TDS the city of Eau Claire for FTTP. The service provider also has launched FTTP in Wisconsin’s Fox Cities while recently completing fiber deployments in Wausau and Stevens Point.
