June 28, 2005 Old Bridge, NJ -- Blonder Tongue Laboratories has announced the release of their LightHouse series of FTTH products. The company says the products comprise a standards-based broadband delivery system optimized for multiple dwelling units (MDUs), gated communities, and small municipalities.

Based on a PON architecture, the LightHouse platform uses a single strand of singlemode fiber to provide 10/100BaseT Ethernet transport and 54-870 MHz CATV bandwidth to a customer's premises, supporting advanced services such as VoIP, IP video, video-on-demand, and digital cable. The platform consists of five key components: the company's FIBT-10-1550 CATV optical transmitter; its BTEA Series amplifier; its FOC Series couplers; its BTEN-231W headend media converters; and its BTEN-431W premise media converters.

The company says the platform employs a one-to-one design architecture (as opposed to the "shared" media converter architecture of larger, competitive FTTH platforms) that ensures significantly low initial capital costs for service providers. The company says this feature can be of particular advantage during initial phases of construction in MDUs and small municipalities, where potential subscriber numbers may be small.
