April 13, 2005 Livermore, CA -- Broadcast Engineering and Services (BES), a fiber-optic network provider in Australia, has selected Alloptic, a provider of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (GEPON) platforms, as the preferred vendor for BES's FTTH network serving estate developments near the city of Perth. According to a press release, BES expects to bring 4,000 FTTH customers online by the end of 2007.
"Alloptic's standards-based PON architecture and Ethernet-based transport protocol make it the ideal technology for greenfield deployments," remarks Geoff Aldridge, CTO of BES. "In addition, Alloptic's PON architecture is compatible with all standard outside plant components, allowing us to purchase products from the vendor of our choice, therefore saving considerable money."
The provider says its ITU-standard GEPON platform supports 32 splits per PON, with a reach capability of 20 km, enabling service providers to efficiently deliver broadband voice, video, and data services, while eliminating active, field-based network components.
"We are pleased to be working with BES as they build their state-of-art fiber network," remarks Ric Johnsen, president and CEO of Alloptic. " Not only do the subscribers benefit from a network that can seamlessly provide enhanced services, the communities benefit from the ability to truly support telecommuting and work-at-home options."
