FEBRUARY 27, 2008 -- Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (search for Sumitomo) has developed new optical devices for FTTH bidirectional transmission. The company's new line of devices includes the diplexer for GPON optical line terminals (OLTs), triplexer for GPON optical network units (ONUs), and bidirectional optical subassembly for point-to-point applications. All devices in the series are fully RoHS compliant to support environmental initiatives.

Product features include burst mode technology -- a reset terminal pin allows for faster response to burst signals -- and a package technology that enables miniaturization and cost-competitiveness. SEI is vertically integrated with O-E devices and has developed its own in-house packaging technology.

The SXT4472, 6030, and 9241 series will be displayed at OFC/NFOEC 2008 this week in San Diego, CA.
