April 6, 2006, Mumbai, India -- Sterlite Optical Technologies, an India-based global provider of optical fiber and telecom cables, has launched its DOF Lite (Metro), Bend Lite OF optical fiber products, aimed at FTTH applications.

"Rapid broadband adoption across India is critical to sustain the economic momentum that India has seen in the last few years," comments Dr. Anand Agarwal, director and CEO of Sterlite Optical Technologies. "We are attempting to offer innovative products to suit different needs to encourage the use of optical fiber in the last few miles of connectivity. This is largely in response to the enthusiastic response we have received from builders and real estate buyers at property exhibitions across India."

The company says its DOF LITE (Metro) optical fiber is "S"-band compatible as well as fully compatible with the existing NZDSF fiber network. The company says the fiber can provide the longest uncompensated reach in a metropolitan area network, efficiently supporting CWDM transmission systems with 320 channels in the S, C, and L bands at 10 Gbit/sec.

The company says its Bend Lite OF optical fiber is well-suited for deployment in the last segment of FTTH networks and is an ideal choice for supporting "triple-play" applications. Fully compatible with standard SMF ITU T G652 A, B, C, D fiber, the company says the fiber is capable of low bend radius, tighter routing, and high fiber density, ensuring very high resistance to macro bending loss on the C and L bands.

The company says the optical fiber products are the first of six to be launched in upcoming weeks.
