JANUARY 7, 2007 -- Chip-maker PMC-Sierra Inc. (search for PMC-Sierra) and DASAN Networks Inc. (search for DASN Networks), a Korean supplier of broadband access equipment, say that Korea Telecom has selected DASAN Networks for deployment of FTTH equipment in the greater metropolitan area of Seoul, Korea.

DASAN's gigabit-per-second EPON equipment, based on PMC-Sierra's FTTH chip set, is capable of delivering premium-grade triple-play services -- voice, data and video -- to Korea's growing FTTH subscriber base. DASAN provides optical network units for FTTH customer premises equipment and optical line terminal FTTH equipment for central offices. DASAN Networks expects the number of subscribers under this deployment to reach 800,000 in the 2007 calendar year.

"Korea has consistently been a leader in deploying broadband access technologies and they now join Japan in selecting PMC-Sierra-based EPON FTTH technology for widespread deployment," said Victor Vaisleib, general manager of the FTTH Business Unit at PMC-Sierra. "To be chosen for deployment in Seoul, the nation's capital, is a significant honor. This accomplishment solidifies our position as the worldwide leader in FTTH silicon."

"Korea is committed to high-volume deployment of FTTH technology and we are pleased to win this contract with PMC-Sierra as they are the only silicon supplier with experience in deploying gigabit-per-second bandwidth FTTH in the millions of units," said Min Woo Nam, CEO, DASAN Networks.
