Optical Solutions Inc., a provider of fiber-optic voice, video and data solutions for the home and broader community, announced a contract with Roseville Telephone Company, an incumbent local exchange carrier with 133,000 access lines in the Sacramento metropolitan area. Roseville Telephone is the principal operating subsidiary of SureWest Communications (Nasdaq:SURW) of Roseville, Calif.

Residents in Del Webb and portions of Highland Reserve and Diamond Oaks neighborhoods in Roseville will be the first to receive the direct fiber connection. Roseville Telephone's initial fiber-to-the-home deployment will feature traditional voice and high-speed data service up to 100 Mbps to the home. The FiberPath 400 system being deployed also has voice and video capabilities, including up to four carrier-class telephone lines per home, IP streaming media, switched digital video, and hundreds of channels of digital and/or analog entertainment television.

Roseville Telephone Company's digital subscriber line service, or DSL, has been available to approximately 90 percent of it customers in Roseville, Citrus Heights, Granite Bay, Antelope and parts of Rocklin since 1999. Once the fiber-to-the-home system is up and running, Roseville Telephone will be able to deliver high-speed Internet access to nearly all of its residential customers.
