Nokia and Lightspeed Broadband say the former will supply the latter with XGS-PON gear to enable the delivery of symmetrical 10-Gbps broadband services. Lightspeed plans to make such services available 1 million homes and businesses in the East of England by the end of 2025, backed with Wi-Fi 6 in-home connectivity.

Lightspeed says it plans to connect the first 100,000 customers with 10G PON by the end of 2022. The XGS-PON roll-out will begin with 10 market towns in South Lincolnshire and West Norfolk, including Spalding, Stamford, Boston, and King’s Lynn, and onward through Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex.

In addition to the ISAM FX XGS-PON equipment, Nokia also will supply aggregation switching and IP edge equipment, as well as whole-home Wi-Fi 6 Beacons and Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller for network management.

“Following a rigorous selection process we chose Nokia for their industry-leading and future-proofed solution which means we can offer 10-Gbps services with best-in-class whole-home Wi-Fi 6 today, and upgrade to even faster speeds in the future,” commented Jeremy Steventon-Barnes, CTO of Lightspeed Broadband.

“We are delighted to be a key account for Nokia, which we feel reflects our strategic relationship and growth potential. Nokia has demonstrated the flexibility and agility we need to support our ambitious deployment plans,” added Steve Haines, CEO of Lightspeed Broadband.

“High speed broadband is crucial to the UK’s economic growth, and we’re delighted to be supporting Lightspeed’s entire deployment, from the customer's Wi-Fi router to the Broadband Network Gateways that connect Lightspeed to the global Internet,” said Phil Siveter, CEO UK & Ireland at Nokia.
