Huawei-3Com selects Passave silicon for FTTH EPON deployments in China

August 9, 2005 Santa Clara, CA -- For deployment in its Quidway S6500 line of switches, Huawei-3Com has selected Passave's Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) chips. The Quidway S6500 series is designed for gigabit-speed delivery of data, voice, and video over fiber, and is expected to provide users a significantly lower cost for EPON-based FTTH broadband service, according to Huawei-3Com.

August 9, 2005 Santa Clara, CA -- For deployment in its Quidway S6500 line of switches, Huawei-3Com has selected Passave's Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) chips. The Quidway S6500 series is designed for gigabit-speed delivery of data, voice, and video over fiber, and is expected to provide users a significantly lower cost for EPON-based FTTH broadband service, according to Huawei-3Com.

Huawei-3Com says the Passave silicon platform will enable continuous cost reduction for gigabit-speed EPON products, thereby contributing to the rapid expansion of fiber-based broadband growth in China.

"We view gigabit-EPON technology as one of the most advanced and mature solutions for delivery of access networks," remarks Xiang Ying Cao, vice president of Huawei-3Com. "By cooperating with Passave, we are able to develop mature gigabit-EPON solutions for the Quidway switch product line in a very short time frame."

Passave says its optical line terminal (OLT) and optical network unit (ONU) devices are deployed in volume by Japan's major carriers, and that its highly integrated EPON chipset is ideally suited to the requirements of carriers in China for cost-competitive broadband delivery and services.

Huawei-3Com says its Quidway S6500 switch with integral Passave FTTH silicon will begin shipping in volume in Q3 of 2005.
