May 13, 2005 Oakland, CA -- Stratford Mutual Telephone Company, an Iowa-based independent telephone operator, has selected Zhone Technologies' FiberSLAM optical line terminal (OLT) and ZRG 850 PON residential gateway platform to deliver voice, data, and video services within the operator's coverage area.
The company says its FiberSLAM platform employs its Single Line Multi-Service (SLMS) architecture to allow telephone carriers to deliver "triple play" services to subscribers over a single network. According to the company, designed for CO, RT, outdoor cabinet, or basement implementations, the platform is suitable for deployments including greenfield networks, migration from copper plants, and overlay networks.
The operator also selected the company's PON residential gateway to enable connections directly to residential subscribers. The company says the gateway combines the functions of a modem, router, and integrated access device in a single unit that resides either indoors or outdoors at a customer's premises. The company says the platform delivers POTS voice, Ethernet, and either IP or RF video from a single fiber input over subscribers' existing home wiring.
"By utilizing existing in-home coax, we eliminate costly home rewiring," comments Randy Baker, GM at Stratford. "The result is lower deployment costs while enhancing our subscriber's experience."
The operator will also employ the company's OSMINE- certified ZMS provisioning and management system, which integrates into existing OSS systems, according to the company.
