Zhone Technologies (NASDAQ: ZHNE) has unveiled four 27xx Series indoor GPON optical network terminals (ONTs). The ONTx support triple-play services delivery in multi-room environments such as large homes, hotels, and university dormitories.
The new zNID 27xx indoor models support the highest WiFi performance Zhone has offered so far. The ONTs have multiple internal high-gain antennas that enable two concurrent dual-band (2.4 and 5.8 GHz) WiFi radios to independently connect multiple users and devices simultaneously, including older 802.11b/g/n as well as 802.11ac devices.
The ONTs' performance also benefits from what Zhone describes as "the latest GPON System-On-A-Chip (SOC)."
The new 27xx Series ONTs, all of which sit upright, include:
- The 2726A1, which supports four Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) LAN ports, five internal antennas that provide WiFi over both 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz, two voice ports, and one USB port. The four GbE LAN ports can be separated into different services, allowing the configuration of dedicated ports for IP video and data.
- The 2726H1, which also supports internet connection over coaxial cabling using HomePNA over Coax (HCNA).
- The 2727A1, which includes an RF video port to deliver RF video to devices in RF overlay applications.
- The 2728A1, which features four GbE LAN ports, two voice ports, one USB port, and the highest WiFi throughput of the 27xx Series. It uses seven internal antennas and an assured transmission scheme to support internet coverage that will enable multicast IPTV services over WiFi.
