Calix Inc. (NYSE: CALX) says Malaysian service provider Symphonet Sdh Bhd has chosen the Calix E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) for the roll-out of new high-speed broadband networks in Kuala Lumpur and Johore Bahru.

The network will use point-to-point Gigabit Ethernet technology over fiber to deliver advanced broadband services, including IPTV, on-demand video, and broadband speeds of up to 10 Gbps to businesses in the two cities. At each fiber-served premises, Symphonet will deploy the Calix 700GE family of optical network terminals (ONTs), including the 716GE-I indoor and 766GX business and mobile backhaul ONTs.

“We have a very clear vision of what we want to offer our customers, especially for the business sector, in terms of performance and quality of service,” said Dato’ Baharum Salleh, CEO of Symphonet. “Calix was able to demonstrate to us that their solution will deliver on that vision cost-effectively and with a good return on investment. The modular nature of the solution ideally fits our business model in terms of building our subscriber base and we are delighted that this will be a highly reliable, flexible, and manageable solution.”

“Consumer and business demand for advanced broadband services is growing rapidly across Malaysia and the rest of Asia as broadband-ready devices proliferate and content continues to move to the cloud,” said Andy Lockhart, senior vice president of international sales and marketing at Calix. “With Symphonet’s advanced new service offerings, residences and businesses in Malaysia’s two largest cities will take a major step forward – able to enjoy some of the fastest broadband services in all of Asia.”

Calix worked with reseller partner Palette Multimedia on the project.
