Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE) says that Norvado, a telecommunications provider serving business and residential customers in northwest Wisconsin, has used the systems developer’s MXK platform in a new FTTx GPON deployment. The build out will cover 30 percent of Norvado's customer base in the rural counties of Bayfield, Douglas, Ashland and Sawyer.
Norvado has been a Zhone customer since 2008. "Zhone's MXK multi-service access platform and its complementary offerings combine to deliver outstanding IP video, voice, and broadband data to our customers," asserted Jeff Lee, plant manager for Norvado. "We chose Zhone's MXK platform to pair with our already-established bonded ADSL and xDSL networks, for the increased density, scale, and performance. Zhone offers a proven multi-service solution designed around IP transmission. Its ability to deliver any card, any slot and any service supporting any access technology is precisely what we needed to address our expansion needs."
Zhone says it has deployed more than 3,000 of its MXK platforms with more than 150 service providers globally. This translates to an FTTx customer growth rate of more than 450 percent in the three-year period from January 2009 to January 2012. Total subscriber capacity supported by these deployments now exceeds 20 million.
