Teknovus offers burst-mode symmetric 10G-EPON devices

JUNE 1, 2009 â�� Teknovus (search Lightwave for Teknovus) has announced the availability of burst-mode symmetric 10G-EPON devices. An open demonstration is being held during the Optinet China Conference on June 3 and June 4 in Beijing.
Teknovus says its 10G-EPON platforms are being adopted by Tier 1 service providers and equipment vendors throughout Asia and North America. Fully compliant with the soon-to-be ratified IEEE 802.3av 10G-EPON standard, Teknovus's symmetric 10G-EPON devices are designed to support triple-lambda WDM for simultaneous downstream operation at 1.25, 2.5, and 10 Gbps. The system also supports dual-rate burst mode, enabling simultaneous operation of ONUs at both 1.25 and 10 Gbps in the upstream. Teknovus has selected Vitesse as its SerDes partner; Vitesse offers the industry's first 10G burst-mode chip.
Teknovus's chip architecture includes support for 3G and 4G cellular-backhaul clock and TDM transport, enabling a unified network for all wireline and wireless services. With built-in clock transport and traffic management, Teknovus says its EPON devices are "the ideal platform for mobile aggregation in multi-dwelling units (MDU) and large enterprises."
"Teknovus OLT and ONU chips are supporting major deployments at both China Telecom and China Unicom," said Dr. Robin Grindley, director of product marketing for 10G products at Teknovus. "In addition, we have secured all major Chinese system OEMs as customers for our 10G-EPON platforms."
