Huawei offers 1RU Pizza OLT for GPON, XG-PON FTTH

Huawei has unveiled the 1RU Pizza Optical Line Terminal (OLT) MA5801 family. The portfolio includes options for both GPON only and mixed GPON and XG-PON fiber to the home (FTTH) scenarios, as well as for different applications.

The company says the Pizza OLT MA5801 line members support dual AC or DC power supplies and a range of operating temperatures. The GPON-only unit will support up to eight ports to enable service to more than 500 users in what Huawei considers typical use scenarios. The GPON and XG-PON unit is designed to support the evolution of FTTH infrastructure from the former to the latter. Operators also can upgrade the OLT to support gigabit ultra-broadband (UBB) capabilities without changing components, Huawei says.

Operators can use the FTTH-focused members of the family to support long-distance coverage in sparsely populated rural areas via Class C++ GPON optical modules with high power budgets. However, other members of the portfolio target additional applications. For example, the Pizza OLTs may be deployed in mobile cabinets in fixed/mobile convergence scenarios to drop fibers to cover surrounding households. They also can be used in passive optical LAN applications to support high-capacity campus or enterprise requirements, Huawei says.
