ADTRAN NG-PON2 Architecture

March 13, 2016
Current GPON solutions support a limited number of true gigabit broadband customers and are not designed to support premium cloud, enterprise, and mobile backhaul and fronthaul services. NG-PON2 solves this issue by delivering 4X more bandwidth per wavelength and multiple wavelengths for additional capacity.
However, the high cost of 10G optical components today has been a limiting factor in making this technology an economical option.
Using the latest 10-Gbps wavelength symmetric ITU/FSAN standards-based technology, known as 10-Gbps Symmetric PON (XGS-PON), ADTRAN is accelerating the delivery of NG-PON2 by transforming this economic paradigm. For service providers, this is the first time both existing residential FTTP customers and early business adopters of next-generation premium technology can be immediately supported on a single, common access architecture afforded by streamlining high cost areas of the next-generation architecture.

Judge's comment: "Supports operators' interest in one network for business services and consumers."
