Tejas Networks (BSE: 540595) (NSE: TEJASNET) said it has finished installing GPON equipment in more than 40,000 Indian gram panchayats (local government institutions in villages or small towns) as part of the BharatNet Phase-1 project, a Government of India project to deliver high-speed broadband connectivity to 250,000 gram panchayats nationwide.
According to the optical technology supplier, Shri Manoj Sinha, honorable minister of state for communications (independent charge) and minister of state for railways, commended the companyfor its contribution to the success of BharatNet Phase-1 at a function in New Delhi on January 8, 2018. The event was held at the India Habitat Centre, and organized by Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL), the special-purpose vehicle setup under India's Department of Telecom.
BBNL's efforts to improve connectivity in India also include a roll out in 2014 of the NOFN project, connecting over 250,000 gram panchayats across India (see "Aksh Optifibre wins $33M order for Indian rural broadband project").

This announcement follows Tejas Networks' deployment in December 2017 of a nationwide fiber backbone network for Bangladesh Submarine Cable Co. Ltd.
