March 21, 2005 Fremont, CA -- Alcatel, a developer of communications platforms for telecommunications carriers, Internet service providers, and enterprises, has awarded Avanex, a provider of intelligent photonic devices for fiber-optic networks, a contract to supply optical components to be deployed in connection with Alcatel's recently announced contracts for major submarine fiber networks.

Avanex's range of optical products for submarine applications includes its PowerBragg gain flattening filter and PowerDeep family of pump laser modules. According to the company, its components and modules are designed to meet the capacity and reliability demands and extended transmission distances required in submarine networks.
