August 25, 2005 Lake Oswego, OR -- The FTTH Council has initiated a monthly series of "Fiber Community Conference Calls." According to the council, the informational Webinars, held the first Thursday of each month, highlight a community that is reaping the benefits of broadband services delivered over all-optical access networks.

For each conference call, the council will provide a phone bridge to call into for audio, and a Web address for viewing presentations. The council says each call will showcase an FTTH community or telecom operator that is unique or pioneering, and is of interest to FTTH Council members.

September's conference call, scheduled for Thursday, September 1st, 2005 at 4:00 pm EDT (1:00 pm PDT), will focus on FTTH progress at Dalton Utilities, in Dalton, GA.
Ray Buzzard will speak on the call. Vice president of communications and information technology at Dalton Utilities, and a fifteen year veteran of the IT sector, Buzzard is responsible for all system-based initiatives that have been implemented at Dalton Utilities over the past seven years.

According to the FTTH Council, Dalton Utilities' extensive communications network includes: a facilities-based FTTH system serving over 6300 customers, with a growing rate of 47% market penetration; a five-county, all fiber-optic SCADA control system for the utility's electric, gas, water, and wastewater business sectors; and a county-wide, broadband ATM network delivering service at OC-12 speeds to industry, government, and education sectors.
