China's Taizhou CATV deploys FlexLight GPON
September 1, 2005 Beijing, China and Dallas, TX -- Taizhou CATV, a major service provider and CATV operator in China, and FlexLight Networks, a provider of Gigabit passive optical networks (GPONs), have announced production deployment of a network using FlexLight's modular Optimate GPON platform, which is based on the ITU-T G.984.x standard.
The operator is currently delivering leased line and Fast Ethernet services to the Chinese government, as well as enterprise and educational customers in the Taizhou metropolitan area.
"FlexLight's GPON solution provides full 2.5-Gbit/sec bandwidth with guaranteed quality of service for existing TDM services, while allowing Ethernet services to be deployed and managed in a reliable and scalable fashion," comments Tao Desheng, manager of Taizhou CATV's broadband network department. "The combination of these factors allows us to migrate our network and to take advantage of the savings in optical plant that PON technology offers, while maintaining the quality of service offering that our customers expect."
"We are very pleased to add Taizhou CATV to our growing Chinese customer list, and are delighted that our Optimate portfolio is leading the acceptance of GPON throughout China," remarks Simon Wang, country manager for FlexLight China. "China's tremendous appetite for high quality bandwidth makes us very optimistic about FlexLight's prospects in China."
