June 22, 2005 Paris, France -- Alcatel has won a €11.2 million contract from Agip KCO - a wholly owned subsidiary of Eni, an international oil and natural gas company - to provide an integrated telecommunications platform for Agip KCO's offshore and onshore plants at the Kashagan oil field, in the Kazakhstan section of the North Caspian Sea. The contract is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2006.
According to a press release, for the deployment Alcatel will implement a transport network using its data-aware Optical Multi-Service Node (OMSN) systems equipped with Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet functionality, supported by the company's 1350 management suite. The company says the platform will enable real-time voice, data, and video communications among the plants' operational facilities and personnel. The company says the platform will also help Agip KCO to better monitor its communications network, while optimizing the security of its personnel and its facilities.
For the deployment, Alcatel will be responsible for systems design, integration, and engineering, as well as for material and equipment procurement, plant integration tests (to be conducted in Florence, Italy), and supervision of installation and commissioning. Under the terms of the contract, the company will also supply the plants with closed circuit television (CCTV) systems for video surveillance, public address and general alarm systems, and radio systems.
Additionally, Alcatel announced the formation of a consortium with JSC KazTransCom, a local telecom operator in Kazakhstan, also contracted in the deployment, to provide Agip KCO with a declaration of joint liability and a responsibility matrix for the contract's management.
"This project gives us the opportunity to serve Agip KCO and the booming oil and gas sector in Kazakhstan once again," says Frederic Rose, president of Alcatel's integration and services activities. "Our vast experience in managing critical turnkey integration projects, in full compliance with the demanding standards of this industry, positions Alcatel as a valuable partner in this region."
