A consortium of Alcatel, AT&T Submarine Systems Inc., Kokusai Denshin Denwa Submarine Cable Systems Inc., and Pirelli has been awarded a contract valued at US$737 million to supply a 21,000-km network and associated electronics that will link Singapore to Germany as part of the sea-me-we 3 (Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe) network. Telstra, in Australia, is linking to the system via a 5000-km cable from Perth to Jakarta and Singapore.
