France Telecom, Paris, reports that a memorandum of understanding should be signed by the time this issue appears in print covering the development of the maya-1 submarine cable system. The

3 x 2.5-Gbit/sec Synchronous Digital Hierarchy cable system will link South, Central, and North America with countries in the Western Caribbean. Landing points will include Baranquilla, Colombia; Colon, Panama; Puerto Limon, Costa Rica; Puerto Cortes, Honduras; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; Cancun, Mexico; and Hollywood, FL. In addition to France Telecom, agreement signatories were expected to include at&t, mci, Sprint, Telmex, Hondutel, Comteca, Cable & Wireless, Intel, ice, and Telecom Colombia.
