Scientific-Atlanta Inc., Atlanta, GA, will provide hybrid fiber/coaxial-cable transmission equipment to Charter Communications, St. Louis, MO, for the upgrade of 10,000 mi of plant. The upgraded network will run through California, Connecticut, Georgia, Louisiana, Illinois, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Charter hopes to use the upgraded facilities to provide greater channel capacity and position itself to provide multimedia services. The new transmission equipment includes fiber-optic nodes, RF electronics featuring Scientific-Atlanta?s System Amplifier II and Line Extender II, and multimedia taps and passives.
