gst Telecom Oregon, a subsidiary of gst Telecommunications of Vancouver, WA, is buying fiber on FirstPoint Communication`s 55-mi fiber-optic communications network that extends from downtown Portland to the western suburbs. FirstPoint is a subsidiary of Enron Corp. of Houston, TX. The purchase is part of gst`s long-term strategy to expand retail service in the Pacific Northwest. The Portland network will be connected to a 1620-mi Portland-to-Los Angeles long-haul route currently being constructed by FirstPoint.
