omron Electronics Inc.,
a manufacturer of automation components, equipment, and systems in Schaumburg, IL, has chosen savvis Communications Corp. in St. Louis, MO, to build a national intranet for the company, with Internet access through savvis`s managed Asynchronous Transfer Mode (atm) backbone network. The new network will let omron employees travel to any corporate office in the United States and access the network without establishing a user ID at each site. Phase I of the project will provide access in 10 cities, with omron`s U.S. headquarters serving as the center of the network`s star topology. The atm network uses both clear-channel DS-3 (44.736 Mbits/sec) and OC-3 (155 Mbits/sec) level fiber-optic circuits.
