Routing switch technology

The Fully Integrated Routing Switch Technology (first) family combines osi layer 2 switching with wire-speed IP routing and associated layer 3 functions. first includes eight-slot, four-slot, and stackable models, and supports 10-, 100-, and 1000-Mbit/sec transmission speeds. The high-end model offers up to 96 10/100-Mbit/sec ports or 12-Gbit Ethernet ports. Aggregate bandwidth is more than 7 Gbits/sec, and minimum-size packets are routed or switched at more than 7 million packets/sec. Applications include building backbones, campus backbones, and desktop or server connections that require a combination of 10/100 and gigabit links.
