Telecomunicacoes de Sao Paulo, Brazil`s largest state-owned telephone company, has purchased $29 million of Synchronous Digital Hierarchy equipment from Nortel, Miami, FL. The resulting fiber-based network will provide Sao Paulo with access to advanced broadband services and handle up to 1.6 million simultaneous telephone calls. The network should reach completion by year-end 1998.
