Dec. 1, 1997

WinStar Communications Inc. of New York will pay US One Communications Corp. $100 million for 14 newly installed Lucent Technologies 5ESS-2000 switches and a 10-year pre-paid lease for fiber-optic capacity in the New York City metropolitan area. By acquiring the telecommunications assets, WinStar says it can provide facilities-based competitive local exchange carrier services in early 1998 to customers in the following new markets where US One switches are located: Minneapolis, MN; Seattle, WA; Tampa, FL; Denver, CO; Kansas City, MO; San Francisco, CA; and Columbus, OH. Seven of the US One switches being acquired are in cities where WinStar has already installed switch capacity. WinStar has agreed to sell two of the seven switches for $19 million and says it has received offers for the remaining ones.
