Teleport Communications Group (tcg) has secured a multimillion dollar contract for local phone

Teleport Communications Group (tcg) has secured a multimillion dollar contract for local phone service with the city of San Diego, CA. The contract is the first tcg has clinched with a member of the newly formed San Diego Regional Network Consortium. Under the terms of the six-year contract, tcg will displace Pacific Bell as the local telephone provider for the city. The consortium was formed to ensure municipal access to cost-effective, state-of-the-art telecommunications networks by leveraging the collective buying power of its members. The agreement between tcg and San Diego is the first contract signed by a member for local dial tone, data, and private line services. tcg has already built a 350 route-mi fiber-optic network throughout San Diego County that includes digital-switching capabilities and a high-speed Asynchronous Transfer Mode platform. The communications group expects to save the city 20% on its local calling bills.
