When the People`s Republic of China`s eighth National Games begin in October, Lucent Technologies, Warren, NJ, will be providing a communications network to carry sporting results. Lucent`s systimax Structured Connectivity Solutions was selected to power the communications network for the games, to be held in Shanghai from October 12 to 24. A 100Base-T, Fast Ethernet network will connect 3000 points, including more than 20 sporting locations, the control room, and all-news centers. The entire network will be made up of Lucent`s Category 3 and Category 5 unshielded twisted-pair cables and fiber-optic cable. Game results and other information will be available to the media within one minute, and broadcast globally through the Internet within two minutes.
