Marconi cutting 1,000 more jobs in UK
9 August 2002 -- London-based telecoms equipment maker Marconi, which has cut its global workforce by more than half over the last year (from about 50,000 to 20,000), says it will shed another 1,000 jobs in the UK. It expects to be left with about 7,000 UK staff, down from 15,000 just over 12 months ago.
Marconi says it is about to begin a three-month consultation process to decide where the new cuts will be made.
