November 18, 2002--Ixia, a provider of high-speed, multi-port network performance analysis and network monitoring systems, introduced the field-portable IXIA 250 analysis system.

Ixia, a provider of high-speed, multi-port network performance analysis and network monitoring systems, introduced the field-portable IXIA 250 analysis system. The IXIA 250 is self-contained, yet powerful enough to run every Ixia application and load module, from 10/100 Mbits/sec through 10-Gigabit Ethernet and OC-3 (155 Mbits/sec) through OC-192 (10 Gbits/sec) packet over SONET. The IXIA 250 is a rugged chassis that integrates everything needed to conduct sophisticated tests in remote locations, including an LCD TFT touch screen display, keyboard, and mouse.

The IXIA 250 is an essential tool for field operations teams that are deploying or troubleshooting Ethernet or packet-over-SONET networks. Internet service providers (ISPs), carriers, and large enterprises can use the IXIA 250 to monitor live network operations, to simulate network traffic conditions, to hot stage modifications and additions to the network, and to perform service turn-up testing. The IXIA 250 works seamlessly with Ixia's full line of application software, including IxActivate.

Central to the IXIA 250's cost-effective design is the integrated TXS Ethernet test port. The integrated TXS Ethernet test port uses the same hardware-accelerated transaction generation and CPU per port technology as Ixia's Gigabit Ethernet TXS load modules and enables the IXIA 250 to test 10/100 Mbits/sec and Gigabit Ethernet links at wire-speed, with a choice of copper or fiber media using hot-swappable modules. This makes the IXIA 250 extremely cost-effective since an additional load module is not required in order to use the chassis.

The IXIA 250 is available with optional code-division multiple access (CDMA) timing, allowing two or more chassis to be accurately time-synchronized over large geographic distances. This enables accurate one-way latency measurements, a key metric for advanced IP services.
