June 7, 2002--VPIsystems www.vpisystems.com) has announced that Tropic Networks Inc. www.tropicnetworks.com) is using the VPI Design and Deployment Center in their TropicVantage service to help carriers optimize their networks.

VPI's Design and Deployment Center connects people, tools, and data with a web-based platform and a range of software modules that contain all the tools required to design, configure, plan, and deploy products and networks, according to the company.

Tropic Networks provides metro networking systems which enable carriers to build revenue opportunities by extending the life of existing networks and services while adding new IP, Ethernet, and wavelength services. Tropic Networks uses VPI's network planning software in its TropicVantage service to provide an understanding of optical design issues, from optical components and WDM systems through to transport service and access networks.

By using the network planning tools from VPIsystems, Tropic can invest more time and effort in helping customers build robust metro area networks), according to Dan Oprea, vice president of system architecture at Tropic Networks.

"We are very pleased to see Tropic Networks using our software in conjunction with the TropicVantage service," said Kay Iversen, CEO at VPI. "Carriers need to strategically plan their networks in order to stay on budget and handle capacity."
