Alcatel cuts 400 staff in Canada

1 October 2002 -- Alcatel Canada Inc is to cut about 400 jobs (about 12% of its workforce), part of Alcatel's overall restructuring.

1 October 2002 -- Alcatel SA's Ottawa-based Alcatel Canada Inc is to cut about 400 jobs (about 12% of its workforce).

It said the job cuts, which are designed to gain efficiencies in its Canadian operating budget, are part of the acceleration of its cost management initiatives.

Alcatel's restructuring moves total EUR1.7bn, aimed at cutting total staffing from 83,000 at the end of June 2002 to 60,000 by the end of 2003.
